The Essential Children’s Party Checklist

If you ask any child what their favorite day of the year is, more than likely the answer will be their birthday. Unlike Christmas, this is the one day on the calendar that is totally dedicated to them and no one else and we all know children love to be the centre of attention. Lots of parents like to organise a party for their child, where all of their friends can get together and really celebrate and have some fun.

This can be a great idea but it also involves lots of planning and organization and if not done properly it can lead to a time of great stress instead of joy and celebration. It may seem easy to organize a party for children because after all, they are only kids. However, if you have made this assumption then you have vastly underestimated the power of the tantrum.

Children are amongst the most demanding people there are, up there with the likes of movie star divas, and therefore failing to provide them with exactly what they want will leave you feeling as worn out and deflated as an unused bouncy castle. Here are a few things that you should be considering.

Decoration

Whether you have hired a big hall or you are planning to host the party in your home, the space will need to be decorated. This can either be in line with a theme such as pirates or princesses or you could just go for general birthday decorations. Either way, the place needs to look the part.

Games

The children attending your party are going to expect to be entertained. A great source of fun at parties is always the games and the old favorites consistently go down well. Musical chairs is a great way to create tension and excitement for the children whilst something like pass the parcel is the perfect way to get everyone involved in a quiet and settled manner.

An Entertainer

Hiring a children’s entertainer can really take the weight off your mind and will mean that you get more chance to enjoy the party that you have planned with your child. Entertainers range from magicians, balloon artists and puppeteers to children’s DJs and they will be experienced at getting everyone in the party spirit as well as knowing what they enjoy.

Face Painting

It remains a mystery why children love having paint put all over their face in the shape of their favorite animal or cartoon character but they do. Face painting is a great way to actively get people involved in your party’s theme or just to enable them to have some fun pretending to be someone else for a while. Also, you might enjoy the brief lull of them all sitting down and having to keep still.

Food

Unless you want your party to really get out of hand and be full of screaming children then you will need to provide them with some food. You are unlikely to be able to please everyone as kids can be quite fussy but it is always best to stick to the obvious choices. There’s no point trying to offer them organic couscous or stuffed peppers because they are likely to merely introduce your food suggestions to the floor and the walls. Burger and chips, fish fingers and pizza are always appreciated choices.
